Choose the right kind of saving
| Save type | Keeps | Remember |
|---|---|---|
| Wheel backup JSON | The exported local wheel state, including its relevant history and entry data | Keep the file somewhere outside the browser’s storage. |
| Workspace project JSON | The prepared project, rings, weights and supported settings | Use Export project / Import project in Workspace. |
| Cloud project | A reusable project for your signed-in account | Free accounts have 3 saves; Pro has 50 and folders. |
| Hosted results CSV | The activity’s recorded result rounds | A results export is not a restorable wheel backup. |
Make and check a local backup
- In the intended wheel, open Names or Layers and choose Export backup.
- Give the downloaded JSON file a recognizable name in your file manager.
- Keep another copy before clearing site data or moving devices. Private browsing and a different browser do not share the same local lists.
- For a prepared multi-ring project, use Workspace’s Export project instead.
Restore without guessing
Use the direct wheel links below to reopen the list saved for that mode in this browser. The homepage’s Names & settings instead opens the homepage’s current setup. For an existing backup, choose the matching wheel here.
Do not rename a CSV or a results export to .json and expect it to become a backup. A damaged or unsupported backup shows an error and should leave the current list alone. Keep the original file for inspection.
- Export the current setup first if you may want it back.
- Open the matching wheel and choose Import backup, then select the original JSON backup.
- Allow the page to reload. Reopen Names or Layers and inspect entries, weights and images.
- For a project export, use Import project in Workspace and inspect the rings before choosing Open wheel.
Avoid overwriting another device’s work
If a cloud project changed elsewhere, use Refresh cloud and reopen the current project before saving. Export the version you need to preserve first.
Exporting all cloud data is an account record, not a promise of a one-click restore path. Check which import control matches each file rather than treating every download as interchangeable.

Common questions
Why is my local list missing on another device?
Local lists live in the original browser and device. Import a saved backup or open a cloud project after signing in to the same account. Clearing site data or using a private browser window can also separate or remove local storage.
Link to this answerWhat should I do when a backup is rejected?
Keep the current list and the original file. Confirm it is a SpinMatter backup JSON for the matching wheel, not a CSV or project export. Use Workspace for project imports. If it still fails, contact Support with the error and browser details, not the private roster.
